Email Subject: Submission on the Woolloongabba Priority Development Area Development Scheme Proposed Amendments Email Message: Dear Minister, As a resident of [your suburb name], I appreciate the opportunity to provide feedback on the Woolloongabba Priority Development Area Development Scheme Proposed Amendments, shared with the public on 7 August 2025. I am concerned about the short 15-day consultation period, which I believe undermines the ability of the community to engage meaningfully in this important process. I would like to submit the following recommendations based on the pressing needs of our community:
It is crucial that the proposed development ensures that 100% of new dwellings on public land are state-funded social housing. Additionally, at least 25% of private developments should be allocated for social housing. With over 52,000 individuals waiting for public housing in Queensland, this initiative is essential to addressing the housing crisis we face.
The amendments should guarantee a minimum of 50% greenspace on the Cross River site, fulfilling commitments made to the community. Furthermore, the state government must fully fund additional publicly accessible greenspaces within the PDA, including a major new park within Precinct 1. Existing parks like Raymond Park and Woolloongabba Place Park must be preserved and managed as public parkland to ensure they remain accessible to all residents.
The development must include robust funding for active transport infrastructure throughout the PDA. This should encompass improved cyclist and pedestrian access along key routes such as Vulture St, Wellington Rd, Leopard St, River Terrace, Logan Rd, and Stanley St to promote a safer and more environmentally friendly community.
I recommend that the development scheme provide sufficient funding for public transport improvements, including high-frequency bus services and additional CityCat stops. This will enhance connectivity within the area and ensure residents can easily access essential services and amenities.
It is vital to include provisions that guarantee no state-owned land will be privatised through sale or long-term leases, ensuring that valuable public resources remain accessible to the community.
The scheme should account for the need for additional educational facilities, including the allocation of land for future expansion of East Brisbane State School. This will help accommodate the needs of our growing population.
I urge that the community consultation process be reinitiated and extended for a minimum of six months. This should incorporate multiple formats, including face-to-face meetings, surveys, and interactive tools, to ensure all voices in our community are represented. I trust that these recommendations reflect the collective vision and priorities of the residents of Woolloongabba. It is essential that our voices are valued in shaping the future of our neighborhood. Thank you for considering my submission. I look forward to your response and hope for a more inclusive approach to development that prioritises the needs of our community. Sincerely, [Your Name] [Your Contact Information]
