The South Brisbane riverfront, known as the former Visy site, is one of the last major pieces of public land left on our river. Right now, the State Government is proposing to sell it to private developers for luxury high-rises.
Our community is already facing overcrowded schools, congested roads, packed buses, and a serious shortage of green space and community facilities. Selling off this public land will make things worse, not better.
Instead of handing it to developers, we could create a new riverside parkland, sporting fields, and community facilities that future generations can enjoy. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to keep our riverfront public and make sure it serves the people, not private profits.
