The Raymond Park Community Garden is at a crossroads. Recent soil testing has revealed elevated lead levels and the previous coordinators have decided to step back from managing the garden. Unless a new group forms to manage the garden, it will be permanently closed.
Brisbane City Council has expressed a willingness to formally recognise the garden. I have also been able to secure funding to deliver safe, raised garden beds that would allow gardening to continue despite the contaminated soil.
To explore the way forward, I will be hosting an on-site meeting to discuss the garden’s future and how the local community can play a role in restoring and maintaining this valuable local asset.
For the garden to thrive again, we need a committed group of local residents to step forward and take an active role in its management. This includes coordinating regular working bees, helping maintain the space, and bringing fresh ideas and energy to the project.
Whether you’re a seasoned gardener, a passionate neighbour, or simply someone who loves the idea of community green spaces—we need you.
Event will be rescheduled in the event of heavy rain.
