The Kurilpa peninsula is experiencing rapid population growth, but our community facilities haven't kept up to meet the increasing demand.
The West End library is bursting at the seams; it needs accessible toilets, community meeting spaces, more space for books, and other contemporary library facilities.
Kurilpa Hall is right next to the library and has never been fully utilized. The current leaseholders are in the process of vacating the premises, which raises questions about what should happen next.
In the short term, should Kurilpa Hall be re-leased to another community group or managed as a Council Hall? We may require a small community campaign to ensure Council listens to the community's wants.
Over the medium term, the Kurilpa Hall site will be redeveloped into a bigger community facility (~4 stories). Should this new facility be entirely managed by the library? Or should there be a community hall which is leased to a community group and managed independently of the library expansion?
We need your voice in shaping the future of our community. Join us at this community meeting to explore the various options and share your valuable insights on what the future of Kurilpa Hall and the West End Library should be.
