Developers are calling open season on Kangaroo Point and the Gabba.
How does our community advance our vision for the neighbourhoods we call home, in the face of these external pressures?
In the past month, we’ve seen FOUR plans submitted by developers that exceed height limits by 75-100% (up to twice the current limit!) within Kangaroo Point and Woolloongabba. These plans feature luxury apartments and provisions for hotels and short term accommodation - with nothing for affordable housing or local resident amenity. As our neighbourhoods feel pinched between the lack of affordable housing and the lack of suitable public infrastructure, the last thing we need is more luxury highrises - especially when the LNP Council administration just slashed the amount developers contribute to infrastructure by a whopping 75%.
Join your local Councillor for the Gabba Ward, Trina Massey, alongside South Brisbane MP Amy MacMahon, to examine some of the plans Developers are submitting. We will also explore how a vision for Kangaroo Point and Woolloongabba could be led by communities first.
There is a capacity limit for the venue, so please make sure you register for this event via the RSVP form.
Accessibility: The venue is fully wheelchair accessible with accessible toilets. AUSLAN interpreters are available for this event - please contact my office by calling 07 3403 2165, or emailing [email protected], to arrange one. Get in touch with us if you have any other accessibility requirements. Car parking in the area is limited, so please consider using active or public transport if this is possible for you.
This event is taking place on the lands of the Jagera and Turrbal peoples. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded and that many past wrongs and ongoing injustices are yet to be rectified. This always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
