In the 1990s, more than 10,000 people marched against flight noise from Sydney Airport, creating pressure that the Government could not ignore. Now, Sydney residents enjoy noise mitigation controls including an overall cap on flights and a night-time curfew, while Brisbane has none of these protections.
Through my recent meeting with the Minister and her response to this report, it’s becoming increasingly clear that it’s going to take a similar show of community strength here in order to get results which bring peace for residents.
Now that the Trax report has been released, I'm hosting a community meeting to build consensus on a flight noise campaign strategy going forward.
It shouldn’t be up to residents to force the Government’s hand into sensible measures like this, but history has shown that may be what’s required. As your MP, I’m committed to working with you to campaign for the outcomes you need, but it’s going to take all of us. We would love it if you could come, and please spread the word.
If you can't make it in person, there will be an online version of this event. You can RSVP for the online details here.
