86 Kurilpa Bus loop Community Meeting

In July last year, I received detailed data on bus patronage for all free loops across Brisbane, revealing that the 86 Loop was by far the most popular. However, just minutes before entering the Chambers on November 12, I was given a letter from the CEO of Council stating that the July data was “incorrect.” This sudden “correction” raises questions, especially given it was provided just before the session in which I publicly called for the 86 Loop to become a permanent route.

My petition, which gathered 1,179 signatures (thank you all for your support!), was submitted to the Council, highlighting the strong community demand for the 86 Loop to remain. Despite this, the Acting Mayor (Deputy Mayor Krista Adams) dismissed the request, citing the amended data and claiming that the 86 was always meant to be a temporary service—not a trial, as was clearly stated on the Council’s own website.

This lack of transparency and the political maneuvering around the future of this important service is frustrating. The 86 Loop has proven to be an essential part of Brisbane’s public transport network, and the Council's refusal to make it permanent is a disservice to the Kurilpa community.

I invite you all to a Community Meeting where we can discuss ideas for potential next steps before the end of the Route Monday 27 January 2025.
